SCARBOROUGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - After qualifying for the NBA D-League postseason for the first time last April, the Maine Red Claws have achieved another first: they held their first open tryout in the state of Maine.
18 players were scouted by Red Claws head coach Mike Taylor and his staff. Amongst the partcipants was former Deering star and Boston University alum Carlos Dunlap.
Two weeks ago, the team held an invite-only tryout at the team's at the headquarters of their NBA parent club the Boston Celtics.
The team can retain a maximum of five players between the two tryouts and invite them to training camp, which begins November 7th.
Tryouts have prevously been held at UMass-Boston (2009-2012) and in Phildaelphia (2011).
A toal of nine players from the tryouts have gone on to make the Red Claws opening day roster, including former UMaine guard Raheem Singleton last season.
