(NEWS CENTER) -- Electric car lovers from Maine and New Hampshire celebrated National Plug-In Day today in Falmouth.
The event featured the largest collection of electric vehicles ever to gather in Maine.
This was the first time National Plug In Day has been recognized in this state.
The event is held in more than 100 cities in the U.S. to heighten national awareness of electric vehicles.
"Part of the challenge with electric vehicles is infrastructure. If you buy an electric vehicle you need to charge it somewhere, and because right now we're very low on electric vehicle charging stations across the state our development in this area is slow," says Steve Woods of Tidesmart Global. "But we're catching up and things like today will really help put us on the map."
Tidesmart Global, which hosted the event, installed one of Maine's first electric car-charging stations last year.
