DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (WESH) -- On his birthday, a city worker climbed into a storm drain to save some stuck baby ducks.
The city received calls from residents of a Daytona Beach apartment complex about the noisy neighbors. They weren't complaining, they were worried about the quacking ducks.
Utility Service worker Ricky Mason pulled the cover from the drain and stepped down 4 feet to pull the three ducklings to safety.
"On my birthday," Mason said. "(It) feels great."
The baby ducks, and their mother, live in a retention pond about 20 yards from the drain.
Officers hand carried two of the ducks back to the pond, but one waddled home on its own.
