AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage has sent packages of lobster products to all 49 other governors in an effort to spread the word about Maine's signature seafood.
LePage's office says the boxes full of prepared lobster meat, bisques and spreads from Maine processors and dealers were shipped overnight on Monday.
The Republican governor announced his plans to send the packages at the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland earlier this month.
LePage says in a statement that the boxes will provide his friends and colleagues across the country to a chance to experience "the flavor of Maine." He says the lobster industry is vital to Maine's economy, generating nearly $1 billion last year.
