PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A 23-year-old Maine man is going to prison for nearly six years for giving another man a fatal dose of drugs.
Shawn Verrill of South Berwick was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Portland to five years and 11 months in prison. Verrill pleaded guilty in March to distribution of suboxone that resulted in the death of Miles Malone.
Prosecutors say Malone was in Verrill's apartment one evening in October 2010 when Verrill gave him two suboxone pills, a narcotic drug used to treat opiate addiction. Malone died later that night of a drug overdose.
