LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - People in Lewiston are uniting in the face of three devastating fires in the downtown.

The show of community support in the city's Kennedy Park Monday evening includes an interfaith prayer session and a moment to thank the first responders who worked through all three blazes and prevented any serious injury.

Organizers say the city has a lot of work ahead to recover but first, it's important that the community take the time to pause and reflect.

"After the couple of weeks the community has been through, I think there was a sense of needs to have permission to start the healing process and to reflect on what we've been through," explains Shanna Rogers from Community Concepts, "[To] acknowledge that trauma and grief but more importantly to think about the positive things that have come out."

Rogers also spoke of a renewed sense of camaraderie that has swept over the community as they rise up from the damage together.

There will be another community event on Thursday. Organizers are holding a "3 Fires 5K," an informal walk/run at Farwell Elementary School. It starts at 6:00 PM and organizers are asking for a $5 minimum donation.
