BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Dr. Kimberly Lieber and Dr. Susan O'Connor are no strangers to the struggles that having breast cancer presents. They have both seen them first hand.

"We have unique perspectives on the needs of patients and their families with breast cancer because both of us have breast cancer in our families," said Dr. Lieber. "My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I saw as a daughter of a patient how important it was to get accurate information in a timely fashion."

The doctors' experiences inspired them to create a practice designed to treat breast cancer with the all aspects of a woman's life in mind. In January, they opened Eastern Maine Medical Center Breast Surgical Specialists. The doctors provide a focused, comprehensive approach to breast cancer treatment, and work to make each visit as easy as possible.

The office's location in the Lafayette Cancer Treatment Center in Brewer means that much of a patient's treatment can be taken care of all in one place.

The practice has also been tailored to a woman's needs all the way down to the tiniest of details, such as adding shelf in the bathroom so a woman will have a place to put her purse.

Staff at the practice believe it's the little things that go a long way for a woman battling breast cancer, and now Mainers can get the treatment they need in an environment that puts a woman's needs first.
