The Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn
AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Androscoggin County jail will be staying open.
Just last week Sheriff Guy Desjardins said that if he did not receive a promised payment from the state, the jail would not be able to make payroll and would have to close.
Tuesday, the Board of Corrections, which coordinates funding for Maine's 15 county jails, met to discuss funds.
They approved Desjardins request for $210,000 dollars to get through the next two months.
A committee convened by the Governor will tackle the long term issues of jail funding... which begin all over again July 1 with a new fiscal year.
