PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Since they were 4 years old, best friends Peter Murray and Peter Plumb have done everything together: played in the sandbox, moved to Maine, created a successful law firm, ran that firm for 40 years and today: raked the park where they planned their firm in secret so many years ago.

Lincoln Park in Portland is beginning the month of May with a spring cleaning, thanks to the partners at Murray, Plumb & Murray and their 28 workers, including 14 lawyers. May 1 is the 40th anniversary of their firm opening, and what better place to celebrate than at the very park where the firm was created?

When Murray and Plumb started their careers in law, they worked for large law firms in Portland, but they always wanted to own their own firm. During the long days at work, they would sneak away on lunch breaks to meet at a bench in Lincoln Park and discuss how they could open their own business.

Now, 40 years later, there's a bench in the park with a plaque commemorating those lunch meetings.

Murray and Plumb say while the park is busier now than it was in the 1970s, it still needs a lot of work. They would love to see a new fountain in the center that reuses the water so it doesn't cost the city of Portland a fortune. They say the "Friends of Lincoln Park" plans on meeting soon to discuss how to expand the park and narrow down the Franklin Arterial that cuts through its original land.

For now, a spring cleaning of the park will do.
