AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The state has chosen Hewlett Packard to provide laptops to kids in Maine's public schools.

Hewlett Packard's offer of its ProBook 4440 running Windows 8 was the lowest of five bids for the state's contract.

For years it has gone to Apple.

Governor LePage says that middle schools can still pick from any of the five offers, but the state will only cover the cost up to the amount of Hewlett Packard's proposal.
