AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After 50 years, an Auburn barber closed up shop for the last time Saturday afternoon -- and the community wouldn't let him go quietly.
Members of the Auburn Police and Fire Departments lined up outside of Smith's Barber Shop in Auburn just before noon, as Harold Smith gave his last haircut to his son.
Smith was retiring Saturday -- but not before receiving an award for his service to the community, and a special send-off.
Police cruisers and fire trucks gave him a ride along home, before going to his retirement party in Lewiston, where Governor LePage made an appearance.
Everyone from the Governor to the Auburn Police Chief has had haircuts at Smith's Barber Shop -- but Smith said it isn't necessarily the big names that he'll miss the most.
"A lot of the things that come out of the little kids' mouths are the most precious," he said. "It really has been a lot of fun."
