AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Gov. Paul LePage says he will not go along with Democrats' attempt to link expansion of Medicaid with repaying the hospital debt.

However, the Republican governor for the first time signaled a willingness to discuss Medicaid expansion, which is a component of the national health care law.

The federal government would pay 100 percent of the costs of expansion in the first three years and 90 percent in the fourth. But LePage has been unwilling to go along with that because of uncertainty the federal funds would continue.

But his spokeswoman, Adrienne Bennett, said Monday's LePage is not ruling out expansion.
