ALFRED, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - More than 2 weeks after a woman was found badly beaten in a motel room in Saco, the man who rented that room is charged with her murder.

39-year old Lebon Bruno made a brief appearance in York County Superior Court. Investigators say it was Bruno who rented the room at the Sunrise Motel in Saco where Elizabeth Williams was found badly beaten. She died the next day in the hospital.

According to court documents Williams had bruises to the area around her eyes, neck, a broken nose and broken teeth. When questioned about it Bruno said Williams knew a man who beats her, then according to police he said Williams was assaulted by a group of Somalians, then changed his story again claiming the motel manager killed her.

"It appears to be initially a case of who was responsible for this although he was a suspect early on and then the DNA came back and we have charged him with murder", said Prosecutor Lisa Marchese.

Bruno's attorney says his client speaks with an accent and that may be accountable for the inconsistencies in his story. Bruno was ordered held without bail at the York County Jail.
