MERCER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Warden Service says a Rome man was injured when he shot himself in the foot while hunting Saturday in the town of Mercer.
The Warden Service says 37-year-old Andrew Knight from Rome was hunting with his father and a female junior hunter off of Rome Road in Mercer when the injury happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Knight was returning from the woods to meet up with his relatives near the road when he placed the gun barrel on top of his left foot in a resting position and the gun discharged. Wardens say the shotgun Knight was carrying loaded with buck shot when it discharged.
Officials say Knight was taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville to be treated for the injury. He's in stable condition, and the incident remains under investigation.
