SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Homeowners looking to convert to solar and other renewable energy sources had a chance to learn more about the idea Saturday at Southern Maine Community College.

SMCC and Common Ground Learning Solutions partnered up to sponsor the Solar Power and Energy Efficiency Fair for homeowners.  People who attended the event got a close up look at various cutting-edge technologies, and had direct access to experts and vendors to learn more about energy audits, financing, and solar energy alternatives.

The event was free of charge to attend, and organizers say a major goal of the fair is to educate homeowners on what opportunities are available.

"I think people like the idea, but they are concerned about both the cost and what seems like a difficult process. They know there are credits available, but how do they get them? They know there is help available, but they don't know where to go," Common Ground Learning Solutions Designer Nancy Beaulieu said.

Beaulieu says a larger event with expanded resource opportunities is being planned for next spring.
