YORK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Sewall's Bridge in York is back open after a truck crashed through the guardrail Sunday night.
Police say Michael Chandler, from Schenectady, New York, swerved, smashing the guardrail and splashing into the York River below.
Chandler told police he was swerving to avoid a bicyclist.
The driver swam to safety and his truck was later removed from the water. He was treated and released from York Hospital for his injuries.
Authorities closed the bridge Sunday night until it could be checked out in the daylight Monday.
A crew from the Maine Department of Transportation checked out the damage, set up jersey barriers where Chandler's truck broke through, and gave it the all clear to open.
