CARMEL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Warden Service says a 58-year-old woman was killed in an ATV accident Friday night in Carmel.
Game Wardens responded to a report of an accident around 8:30 P.M. Friday on Deer Run Lane off of Etna Pond Road. Joyce Girt was found dead on scene by rescue officials. The Warden Service says she was found in a driveway next to her ATV. It was not running and it was not in gear.
Emergency personnel also found Girt's husband, 67-year-old Robert Girt from Carmel, underneath his ATV when they arrived. He was complaining of head, neck, and leg pain and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center by Life Flight helicopter. He was later taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
Joyce Girt's body has been taken to Augusta for an autopsy. The Warden Service says upon initial investigation, it appears Girt had head injuries consistent with falling from an ATV.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident. The accident remains under investigation.
