CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine--Tom Hanson is the Treasuer of the Ski Museum of Maine. He is turning his skiing into a fundraiser. He plans to ski three million vertical feet and will use an app to measure his effort. He is asking people to pledge money for his effort. The money will go to the Ski Museum of Maine.
The app is called Alpine Replay and any skier may sign up for it. It tracks information such as weather, skier runs, vertical feet and top speed. It even awards medals as skiers reach certain plateaus.
The Ski Museum of Maine is located in downtown Kingfield. It has an extensive collection of vintage equipment, historic artifacts and houses the Maine Ski Hall of Fame.
Tom Hanson has skied 2.4 million vertical feet this year. He could have his three million foot goal accomplished by the end of February.
