BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- On a hot, summer day, it's pretty likely that students aren't thinking about going back to school anytime soon, but United Way of York County is doing just that.

United Way is stuffing the bus for the "Tools for Schools" campaign and collecting notebooks, pens, rulers, and other supplies throughout July to make sure children are fully prepared to go back to school this fall.  The goal is to provide 500 students in Southern Maine with backpacks fully loaded with everything they'll need for a successful school year.

"School supplies, you can get really great deals, but they can get really expensive for a kid to get all of them altogether," Whitney Guthrie, United Way, said. "Efforts like this that are going on all throughout the state and here in York County are really, really important to make sure these kids are ready for school come fall."
