NEWPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- A man from Kentucky has been trekking across parts of the state for diabetes prevention awareness, and he's doing it all while pushing around a little bit of extra baggage.
For the last three months, Erik Bendl of Louisville has been pushing a giant globe ball up much of the east coast. Bendl, his 19-year-old son Ethan and their dog Nice are in the midst of walking from Washington D.C. all the way out to Acadia National Park.
This is the third time that Bendl has taken the globe on a walk for diabetes, which took his mother's life. He hopes people who see him will learn one good way to prevent the disease is to stay active.
"Do anything that makes you want to go out and do something," he said, "I've found that I don't like to walk...but I dont' mind playing ball!" he jokingly added."
