PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) -- Two passengers who were arrested in connection with a daylong bomb scare on a bus in Portsmouth, N.H., have made initial appearances in court.

John Smolens, of Lewiston, Maine, pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest after getting off the Maine-to-New York bus Thursday afternoon. The 68-year-old was released on $2,500 bail.

Calvin Segar, of New York City, has been ordered held on $10,000 bail for allegedly giving a false name to officers after the passengers were evacuated. Segar, who is 29 and has a record for drug possession, said he was nervous and lied.

The man whose overheard conversation sparked the scare was not charged. Police say a passenger called 911 after overhearing a cell phone conversation between a fellow passenger speaking Swahili and someone who said there was a bomb on the bus.
