SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The major candidates for the Blaine House met Wednesday for the first time. There are so many candidates running, more than 20 so far, and it's difficult getting to any real substance in the early debates. But the candidates will look for opportunities to stick out from the crowd.
Thirteen of the people vying to become maine's next governor gathered at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland. They were considered the major candidates by the debate's sponsor, the Augusta-based Associated General Contractors of Maine.
Some of the candidates said they didn't expect the debate to be a good forum to get their message out.
The organizers didn't expect that either.
They said this was meant to be a fun and informative way for people in the audience to get to know a little bit more about the candidates and where they stand on some of the issues.
