AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- People joined hands around the Capitol in Augusta Saturday to mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Those who oppose the Supreme Court decision of Roe V. Wade, legalizing abortion, gather every year at this time to mourn and protest the ruling.

The events of the day started with a Catholic Mass celebrated by Bishop Richard Malone at St. Mary's Church in Augusta.

The Capitol bell rang 37 times to mark the anniversary.
