PORTLAND (AP) -- Dr. Ira Helfand, a co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility, is bringing his anti-nuclear weapons message to Maine.
An outspoken critic of U.S. nuclear weapons policy, Helfand will be in Portland on Monday to speak at the Charles Dana Health Education Center.
Helfand will discuss American nuclear weapons policy, the dangers of nuclear proliferation, the public health consequences of nuclear weapons use and how Maine's senators can influence the issue.
His talk comes before the Senate considers ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty next spring.
The speech is at 5:30pm in Classroom 3 at Charles A. Dana Health Education Center, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland.
