Gendron to be named new hockey coach at UMaine

ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - NEWS CENTER has learned that Dennis "Red" Gendron will be the next hockey coach at the University of Maine.

Gendron has signed a four year deal worth $205,000 a year.  Gendron was an assistant coach at Yale for the past few years.  The announcement will be made formal at a press conference Tuesday afternoon at 1pm at the Alfond in Orono.

Gendron comes to Orono with more than 34 years of coaching experience - at all levels of the game. He started his college hockey coaching career under Shawn Walsh at UMaine. Gendron was an assistant on the Black Bear squad that won the NCAA title in 1993.  

Gendron replaces Tim Whitehead who coached the team for the past decade.  Whitehead was fired on April 9th after Maine recorded a losing record this past year.
