NEWRY, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Red Bull Frozen Rush ran its inaugural event at Sunday River Resort. Frozen Rush is an off road event in which trucks race a figure eight course right on a ski mountain and reach speeds of more than 95 miles per hour.
It's a wild and wooly event. Eight of the country's top off road drivers were brought in.
Ricky Johnson, one of the most famous drivers in the sport had taken a truck to Mt. Snowe in Vermont last year for a test exhibition. "Red Bull hand selected these drivers," Johnson said. "It's awesome! You get to race in the snow. I want to see how much better I can get."
B. F. Goodrich sent specially made tires to the event. Hall of Famer Rob MacCachren who has won more than 200 races found the whole thing a learning process. "I had no idea what it was going to be like. I don't drive in snow. I don't drive in ice. Heck, I barely skied when I was a kid."
The event will be televised by NBC at three in the afternoon on Super Bowl Sunday.
