Amy Bouchard's Black Cat Cookies

1 cup softened butter
2 cups sugar (plus more for rolling)
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 heaping cup cocoa
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
Candy corn
M&M's or button shaped candies
Chocolate sprinkles (optional)

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, mix butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and mix until well blended. In a medium bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture until well incorporated.

Roll the cookie dough into 1 ½ inch balls (about 24). Roll the balls into sugar or chocolate sprinkles. Flatten balls in the palm of your hand, pinching the top of the cookie in two places to form ears. Place cookies on parchment lined cookie sheet. Use a fork to press twice onto each side of the cookie to make whiskers. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes. Remove from oven and press candy corn into the cookies for eyes and M&M or button candy for the nose.
