AMERICAN PIE'S DON MCLEAN
Don McLean is one of America's most enduring singer-songwriters, and is forever associated with his classic hits "American Pie", "Vincent", "Crying" and "Castles in the Air." Since first hitting the charts in 1971, Don has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records worldwide. In 2004 he was included in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by artists from every music genre, most notably Madonna's recording of "American Pie" in 2000, which was a hit worldwide.
Don McLean: American Troubadour is a behind-the-scenes look at his career of forty-plus years, and features live performances of his best known hits. The film was produced and directed by four-time Emmy Award winner Jim Brown, whose work includes Peter Seeger: The Power of Song and Peter Paul and Mary: Carry It On - A Musical Legacy.
"American Pie" was chosen as the fifth greatest song of the 20th century by the NEA and RIAA, and the song is in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
