JOURNALIST SUDIP MAZUMDAR

Sudip Mazumdar rose from the slums of India to become a special correspondent and bureau chief for Newsweek in India. He has won awards and acclaim internationally for his reporting on stories such as the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the chemical disaster in Bhopal, India's liberalization program and terrorism to the global appeal of Bollywood.

He credits Indian acceptance of adversity and the life skills he honed overcoming slum conditions for much of his success in journalism.

Sudip Mazumdar is a visiting Libra Professor at University of Maine at Farmington for the 2013 spring semester. The Libra Professorship Program brings scholars of national and international prominence to the University of Maine System campuses to provide students and members of the community with outstanding faculty models for teaching, research and public service.
