The Abyssinian Meeting House was built between 1828 and 1831 to serve Portland's African American community. The building closed in 1916. The Abyssinian Meeting House was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Committee to Restore the Abyssinian is working to restore the Meeting House and promote the cultural heritage of African-Americans in Maine.
