Pownal, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Veterans with disabilities are being encouraged to get up and get going. A program called VAST--Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training is offering physical rehabilitation to veterans and it's absolutely free.
"Physical fitness should be a part of everyone's life," said Kristina Sabasteanski a former Olympian who is director of the program. "We want more veterans to get involved as participants and volunteers."
The group meets Wednesday mornings at the Pineland Center in Pownal. Among the participants is Air Force veteran Julie Smith, who has M. S. "Skiing really pushes the envelop for me," she told NEWS CENTER, "This is a great program."
Any Veteran with disabilities including PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury are invited to sign up. The organization is also looking for volunteers.
