POLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Turkey season opened for all hunters in Maine today. Thousands of hunters were expected to be in the field. The season will last until June fourth.
Most of the state is open to turkey hunting. Resident hunter's must possess a license and have paid an twenty dollar fee to hunt for turkeys.
Generally, hunters use a blind and call the turkeys within range. This is done with a box or slate call to mimic a hen's clucking. The tom's gobbler call is a piece of plastic which emits a large "gobble" sound when shaken.
