CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Generally, when Mainers think of a snowboarder, they think of Seth Wescott.  Now the Olympic gold-medalist is being joined on the World Cup circuit by Alex Tuttle of Stratton.  Alex, who grew up in Stratton, has been boarding at the national level since he was 14.  He even won an age group national championship.  Now he is stepping up to take on the best in the world for the first time.

"It's huge," Alex told NEWS CENTER. "It's what I've been working towards for a long time and it could be a good break if I have a good showing there and do what I hope to."

Alex earned his trip to the World Cup race at Telluride last year by finishing fourth at the Junior Worlds.

He has been mentored by fellow Sugarloafer Seth Wescott.  Wescott is excited by his protege who he describes as "big, strong and fast."

Tuttle likes to get out in front and hold the lead.  He describes himself as a "good jumper who has to work harder on his turns."

The finals at Telluride will be on December 19.  NBC (including WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2) will air the event on Sunday, December 27th from 1-2 P. M.
