RANGELEY, Maine (AP) -- Maine's Bureau of Parks and Lands says it's acquired more than one half-mile of shoreline on Rangeley Lake for the lakeside state park in western Maine's mountains.

The state bought the 29-acre parcel for $595,000 with funds from the Land for Maine's Future Program. It previously had been surrounded by Rangeley State Park land, and it now becomes part of a continuously protected shoreline.

State Conservation Commissioner Patrick McGowan said Monday that the state could not have closed the deal last Friday without cooperation from the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust.

Rangeley Lake State Park consists of nearly 900 acres on the 10-square mile Rangeley Lake.
