For the past 27 years Gilman Pelletier (Waterville) has delivered hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors in Kennebec, Somerset, and Waldo counties under Spectrum Generations' Meals on Wheels program, typically 300 meals per week. An active member of several fraternal and civic organizations, Ryan Poirier of Spectrum Generations says that Gil is "a man who has dedicated his life to his community." With a helping hand and an open heart, Gil helps with facility maintenance at Spectrum Generations' community centers in Waterville, and farther afield in Skowhegan and Belfast. Although he is eligible to have his Meals on Wheels transportation expenses reimbursed by Spectrum, he has donated all monies back to Spectrum.
For 15 years Gil has been a tremendous help to Waterville's election process, assisting with absentee voting and providing rides to those who would not be able to get to the polling location. He has been a vital member of the Franco-American Heritage Society and the annual Franco-American Family Festival.
Earlier this year Gil was recognized as the Maine Volunteer of the Year by Home Instead's "Salute to Senior Service," and, by mayoral decree, was awarded Waterville's 2011 Spirit of America Volunteer Award.
