CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10k Road Race has been a Maine tradition for 16 years, but there will be many touches of Boston throughout this year's race.

The starting line features a blue and yellow Boston Strong Ribbon.

The ceremonial starter will be Karen Rand, the Westbrook woman who lost her leg at the Boston Marathon finish line in April.

Race Director Dave McGillivray was also the Race Director for the Boston Marathon this year.

"What happened on April 15th will only strengthen our sport and we really do have a renewed sense of patriotism now," said McGillivray.

More than 6,000 runners will compete in the road race Saturday morning.

Participants represent 39 states and 16 countries.
