DAMARISCOTTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - "The Maine Christmas Song" contains this chorus: "It's the season for sharing, giving and caring, hanging wreaths upon a neighbor's door."
Those words pretty much sum up the goal of a national campaign called "26 Acts of Kindness", launched in memory of the 26 children and adults killed in last week's school shooting in Connecticut.
People and groups around the country are taking up the campaign, reaching out to others in ways small and large, to show they care.
NEWS CENTER answered the call to kindness today, as reporter Don Carrigan and photojournalist Kirk Cratty offered 26 random acts of kindness for people in the midcoast. The individual "acts" included simple things like carrying groceries for a woman in Warren, and larger efforts like buying a customers gasoline, giving coffee to the staff at a garage or a gift card to the father of three children who works at a Rockland grocery store.
The man who was surprised to have us pay for his gas said simply, "Thanks. I'll pay it forward."
