SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- On Saturday, nearly two hundred people will run and walk through downtown Saco to raise money in the fight against breast cancer.

This will be the seventh year that Saco Bay Physical Therapy holds the 5K Cure For Breast Cancer Road Race. Each year, it attracts breast cancer survivors and those who have lost a loved one to the devastating disease.

Every person who runs or walks this course has a story about how breast cancer has affected them. Erin Cannon is no different. Her grandmother lost her second battle with breast cancer in 2004. Cannon says her fight with the disease was inspiring and empowering.

"She survived once, and she wanted to survive again," Cannon said. "And she did everything that she could and she wasn't afraid to do everything that she could."

When she joined the team at Saco Bay, Cannon jumped at the chance to help organize the annual race.

"I was really excited to come on board and really get people together because it is a cause that people are really passionate about, whether they're survivors, they're family of survivors, they really want to support everybody involved."

Over the past six years, the race has raised more than seventy-six thousand dollars for the Maine Cancer Foundation. That means all of the money raised stays right here in Maine, going toward support programs for survivors and research for a cure.

Pre-registration for the race will be open until the evening ofThursday September 6th. It costs $15 to pre-register and $20 to register the day of the race. The race starts at 4pm Saturday. For more information visit the Saco Bay Physical Therapy website.
